Blue Cat's Connector by Blue Cat Audio is a new plug-in that allows you to route audio and MIDI data between applications, between multiple computers, and even within the same application with minimal latency.
This can be a huge solution to a problem! The new plug-in is a universal virtual cable for audio and MIDI data. You can use it for things like sending an audio stream from anywhere in your DAW to another application, solving various routing problems in your DAW, and even setting up connections between computers on the same network.
Additional Information
Unlike other virtual audio drivers such as GroundControl, which must be selected as your DAW's audio output device, Blue Cat's Connector is a plug-in that can be inserted anywhere on your DAW's mixer. You can then specify where the data should be sent or where it should be received from. This could be a different Blue Cat's Connector instance in the same DAW, in a different application, or on a different computer on the same network.
According to Blue Cat Audio, you have complete control over your streaming, ensuring the lowest possible latency. When used in the same application, the Connector supports zero latency. It also offers resampling and drift compensation algorithms so you don't have to worry about sample rates and any potential timing issues.
The list of potential applications where this could be useful is long. For example, let's say you want to record a Logic Pro instrument in Studio One or vice versa. You can use Blue Cat's Connector to set up a real- audio and MIDI connection between two DAWs. Similarly, you can set up send/return effect loops to other DAWs on the same or different computer. Or you can use the plug-in's pass-through and receive level knobs to mix the received signal into the channel's bandwidth. For example, placing two plugin instances before and after the compressor allows you to mix raw and processed signals if the compressor does not offer this control. And if you're using multiple computers, the plugin can serve as a universal virtual network cable that can be "plugged in" anywhere in your DAW, allowing you to send audio and MIDI back and forth as needed.
With this level of versatility, Blue Cat's Connector looks like a must-have solution for any virtual audio and MIDI connections in your system. There will definitely come a when you need it.
