Yıllar yılı silahlı soygunculuk yapan, yaşadığı gün sayısından fazla günahı kumbarasına atan fakat yaşı ilerleyince -ta ki ailesi katledilene kadar- imana gelip "bu işleri" bırakan Reverend Ray ve kavgalı olduğu yeğeni Billy. Birbirinin düşmanı hâline gelen iki akrabadan Reverend Ray'i ve yeğeni Billy'i yeniden uzlaşmaya ve birlikte iş yürütmeye mecbur eden olay ise, ailelerine bulaşan kan. Tabii senaryoyu yeteri kadar bilmiyoruz, ortada dönen olaylar bu kadarıyla sınırlı değil; oyunu oynadıkça neler olduğunu göreceğiz. Western filmlerinde rastladığımız tüm saldırı şekillerinin ve vahşi batı geleneklerinin tamamına yakınını oyun olarak yaşama şansı bulacağız. Kasaba evlerinin, binalarının içerisinde geçen ve ortalığın temizliğinin bitmesinin hemen ardından boss karakter ile ortalık alanda yapılan teke tek mücadeleler, gerek atmosferiyle gerekse gerçekçilikleri ve oynanışlarındaki ince düşünceler ile görebileceğimiz en hoş western sahnelerini bir film şeridi olarak beynimize kaydetmemizi sağlayacak. Malkoçoğlu'ymuşuz gibi hissetmemize sebebiyet veren orta karar karakterlerle yapılan çatışmalarda etraftaki yanıcı maddeleri kullanmak ve hemen ardından şayet yanan yerden geçip gitmemiz gerekiyorsa su kullanarak ateşi söndürmek, bolca yapacağa benzediğimiz ve olmazsa olmazlarımızdan biri olacakmış gibi görünen ender "banal"lerden. Umarız "yak-söndür" taktiği oyunun ilerleyen bölümlerinde sıkıntı verici hâle gelip CoJ'u tekdüzeleştirmez. Boss karakterlerle yapılan teke tek düellolarda ise kilit hareket fareyi hızlı ve doğru kullanmak olacak. Çift el tabanca kullanılırken sol fare tuşunun sol tabancayı, sağ fare tuşunun ise sağ tabancayı ateşleyecek olması; silahın kılıftan çıkış anında sahnenin ağır çekimle oynanması ile birleşince değmesinler keyfimize. Reverend Ray'in dine döndükten sonra kazandığı kilise tecrübesi de çatışmalarda bir eliyle İncil'i tutarak düşmanlarını iman gücüyle yıpratmasını sağlayıp, aynı zamanda da oyunun biraz olsun renklenmesine sebebiyet verecek. Görevlerin sadece çatışmalardan ve yaşamak için avlanmaktan ibaret olacağı fikrine kapıldıysanız bu önyargıyı çok geç olmadan kıralım; posta arabası çalma, kaçırılan bir kızı kurtarma gibi görevlerle de karşılacağız ve bu görevlerin bazılarında masumları öldürmemeye ayrıca dikkat etmek gerekecek, masumları öldürdüğümüzde görevin başarısızlıkla sonuçlanmış olduğu gerçeğine de katlanmak boynumuzun borcu olacak. Apaçilerle savaşırken de genellikle at üzerinde karşılaşacağımızdan, at üzerinde savaşma tekniklerinin inceliklerini de -bir o kalmıştı- CoJ sayesinde öğreneceğiz ve savaş kültürümüze kültür katacağız(?). Billy ile oynadığımız bölümlerden biri olduğunu tahmin ettiğim -sesinden anladım- bir çıkış öncesi videosunda, kırbaç niteliğinde de kullanılan bir ip ile dağ bayır çıkarken karşılaşılan çıngıraklı yılanın tıslamasına ve ısırmasına karşılık verilen "hii" tepkisinin ne kadar yerinde ve gerçekçi olduğunu, ardından yılanı birkaç kez kırbaçlayıp ipi kullanarak yukarı çıkmaya devam edişimizin oyun hakkında "aşırı derecede" hevesli olmama yol açtığını da belirtmeliyim. Şu ana kadar izleyebildiğimiz videolardan ve görebildiğimiz görüntülerden edinilebilen ön izlenimlere kulak verilirse, grafiklerin yeterliliği yanında harika ses efektleri ve müziklerle karşılaşacağımız şimdiden belli oluyor. Ölümlerdeki gerçekçiliğe ölmekte olan karakterin bağrışlarının katkısı kuşkusuz oldukça büyük, aynı şekilde çıngıraklı yılanla karşılaşılan sahnedeki "hii" efekti de kırbaca -ya da ipe- gereksiz yere ilgi gösterilmesini sağlıyor ve bu örnekler de ses efektlerinin atmosferi tamamlayıcılığını kanıtlıyor. Western tarzına uygun hazırlandığı izlenimine kaptıran müziklerden özellikle ağır çekimlerde duyulan batı havasına sahip gerilim müziği, ağır çekimlerin yarattığı hoş atmosfere tuz biber ekiyor ve oracıkta bir sinerji oluşturuluyor.
