[Tip] Secret Trick to Launch Classic System Properties in Windows 10 Directly from Control Panel

- Last updated on November 3, 2020 by

Yesterday we posted a tutorial to restore classic System Properties in . Actually Microsoft has removed direct access to classic System Properties window in newer versions of Windows 10 ( and later).

https://media.askvg.com/articles/images8/Restore_Access_Classic_System_Properties_Windows_10.png

If you click on "System" icon present in Control Panel, it redirects to new modern About page in Windows 10 Settings app.

Following screenshot shows new modern About page available in Windows 10 Settings app which is opened by default if you click on System icon present in Control Panel:

https://media.askvg.com/articles/images8/New_Modern_About_System_Properties_Windows_10_Settings.png

We told you how to create a direct shortcut to classic System Properties and how to add the shortcut to Desktop context menu (right-click menu) in Windows 10. Check out following article for details:

An AskVG reader "Visan Gabriel" shared some interesting information. The reader told that it's still possible to open classic System Properties window directly from Control Panel.

You just need to right-click on System icon in Control Panel and select Open option from the context menu.

Voilla. You'll have the classic System Properties opened in the same window. It was so easy to launch classic System Properties in Windows 10 newer versions.

Actually when you click on System icon in Control Panel, Windows 10 uses the "Open in new window" option as default for it and launches new modern About Settings page. But if you right-click on System icon and select Open option, it launches classic System Properties in the same window.

BONUS TIP:

You can also right-click on System icon and select "Create shortcut" option. Windows will show a message that "Windows can't create a shortcut here. Do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop instead?", click on Yes button and it'll automatically create a direct shortcut to classic System Properties on Desktop.

Now you can use this shortcut to launch classic System Properties any time. You can also pin the shortcut to Taskbar or for quick and easy access.

Thanks again to our reader "Visan Gabriel" for sharing this useful trick...

[Tip] Restore and Get Back Classic System Properties in Windows 10

- Last updated on November 2, 2020 by

Recently lots of readers contacted me and asked me how to restore missing classic System Properties in ? Actually Microsoft has removed (sort of) classic System Properties window from newer versions of Windows 10 ( and later). Now Windows 10 no longer allows users to access and open classic System Properties window which was available in Windows Vista and later Windows versions.

If you installed or upgraded to newer version of Windows 10 and you try to launch System Properties from Control Panel, Windows 10 now redirects you to the modern About page located in Settings app.

Following screenshot shows new modern About page available in Windows 10 Settings app which is now opened by default whenever you try to launch classic System Properties from Control Panel:

It might annoy a lot of Windows 10 users who regularly use System Properties in Windows 10 operating system. Don't worry! In this article, we'll discuss ways to bring back classic System Properties in Windows 10 newer versions.

Following screenshot shows classic System Properties window restored and running in newer versions of Windows 10 successfully:

This change was made in Windows 10 build 20161 which was released to Windows Insiders on July 01, 2020. Later the same change was brought to Windows 10 version 20H2. We told you about this change in our exclusive Windows 10 changelog topic present at following link:

Here is what Microsoft told about this change in the :

We're continuing to work on bringing capabilities from Control Panel forward into Settings. As part of this ongoing effort, we are migrating information found in Control Panel's System page into the Settings About page under Settings > System > About. Links that would open the System page in Control Panel will now direct you to About in Settings. We are also bringing new improvements like making your device information copyable and streamlining the security information shown. And don't worry - if you're looking for more advanced controls that lived in the System page in Control Panel, you can still get to them from the modern About page if you need them! There will be more improvements coming that will further bring Settings closer to Control Panel.

UPDATE: Check out following article to learn how to direct open classic System Properties from Control Panel in Windows 10 newer versions:

Fortunately the good old command (CLSID or GUID) to launch classic System Properties window still works in newer versions of Windows 10, so we can use the old command to open and access classic System Properties in Windows 10 newer versions.

We have mentioned this command several times in past in many AskVG articles. If you are an old reader of this website, you might already know about it. In fact many readers might be using a direct shortcut for this command to quick access System Properties window. We shared the direct shortcut too in old articles.

Anyway here is the direct command to launch classic System Properties in Windows 10:

explorer shell:::{BB06C0E4-D293-4f75-8A90-CB05B6477EEE}

You can copy paste the above mentioned command in RUN dialog box (WIN+R) or Start search box and press Enter and you'll get back classic System Properties in Windows 10.

You can also create a direct shortcut on Desktop using this command which will help you in opening classic System Properties quickly and easily. Just right-click on Desktop, select New -> Shortcut option, paste the above mentioned command in Location text box, set desired name and click on Finish button. Once the shortcut is created, you can customize and change its icon using shortcut's properties.

For more quick access, you can also pin the shortcut to Taskbar or and now you can launch classic System Properties any time you want by just clicking on the pinned shortcut.

Following screenshot shows classic System Properties shortcut present on Desktop, Start Menu and Taskbar in Windows 10:

For your convenience, we are providing a ready-made shortcut to classic System Properties. Just download following ZIP file, extract it using a file archive software such as and you'll get a direct shortcut of classic System Properties:

You can put the shortcut on Desktop or pin it to Start Menu or Taskbar for quick and easy access.

BONUS TIP:

Wouldn't it be great if you could access classic System Properties using Desktop context menu? We have created an exclusive registry script for you which will help you in adding direct shortcut to classic System Properties in Desktop context menu. So you can right-click on Desktop and you'll get classic System Properties shortcut or option present in the context menu (right-click menu) as shown in following screenshot:

https://media.askvg.com/articles/images8/Add_Classic_System_Properties_Shortcut_Desktop_Context_Menu_Windows_10.png

Download following ZIP file, extract it and you'll get registry script to add classic System Properties shortcut to Desktop context menu:

The ZIP file also contains extra registry script to delete/remove classic System Properties shortcut from Desktop context menu if you decide to remove it in future.

PS: You can customize and change shortcut name, icon or position in the context menu by modifying the registry script in Notepad or directly modifying the Registry.
